More Bicentennial Afghans on the way!

Jefferson Township, NJ.  It must be the chill in the air and/or the desire to own a piece of Jefferson Township history that has caused such a high demand for the Bicentennial afghans. A third order has been placed and delivery is expected soon so these beautiful afghans will be in stock once again! So if you're in front of the TV and looking for something soft and warm to throw over your legs or shoulders just to chase the chill away or if you're a history buff…   Well, the Bicentennial Committee has something for you!

To commemorate Jefferson Township's 200th anniversary, a beautiful woven soft and warm afghan measuring 50 inches by 60 inches was designed featuring nine beautifully crafted depictions of historically significant sites or bits and pieces in Jefferson's past and present. Those sites include the Township Gazebo, the First Presbyterian Church of Berkshire Valley, Milton School, the Prospect Point Fire Boat, Ice Harvesting, the Steam Train, The Norman Hotel, Jefferson Township Fire Company #1's firehouse, and the Iron Forge.

The afghan is available in blue and silver or cranberry and green at a cost of only $35 each. Orders are being accepted by Bicentennial Committee member Debbie Smead, 68 Ridge Road, Jefferson Township, Oak Ridge, NJ 07438.   On an official order form (available at the Jefferson Township Municipal Building or by contacting eileengr@optonline.net) or on a sheet of paper, simply indicate your color choice, number of afghans to be ordered, your name, address, and phone number clearly written, and attach a check payable to the Jefferson Township Bicentennial Committee for $35 for each afghan ordered and send it all to Mrs. Smead.

It's not too late to buy a Jefferson Township Bicentennial Calendar

The Jefferson Township Bicentennial Committee has published a beautiful 8 ½" x 11" black and white glossy calendar to celebrate the township's 200th anniversary.  Not only will this calendar guide you through the remaining ten months of 2004 and bring you into January of 2005, but also its beautiful photographs will give you a glimpse into Jefferson Township's history.

The calendar features a cover photo of the township's magnificent Gazebo sited at the Municipal Building complex on Weldon Road.   Following a brief history of the township's origins and a message from Mayor Russ Felter, historical photographs precede each month's calendar:  January – Churches in Jefferson Township, February – fire and rescue,  March – the Central Railroad at Nolan's Point, April – the Berkshire Valley Hotel, May –. Almeda Chamberlain Headley at a spinning wheel, June – The Ringling Manor,  July – recreation, August - the Milton Cornet Band of 1900 and the Community Band of 2003, September – schools, October – diverse township scenes, November – Clifford Hogan's Store, December – the Jefferson Township Museum, and January 2005 – Ice cutting at Nolan's Point Ice House.

Holidays are marked with appropriate graphics each month with plenty of space to write in your personal events and important reminders, especially all the events that the Bicentennial Committee is hosting every month throughout 2004.    However, the calendar is so beautiful, you might just want to keep it as a commemorative piece.

This beautiful calendar is only $5 and can be purchased by contacting Eileen Grady at 973-697-1116 or eileengr@optonline.net

Quantities are limited so be sure to purchase a Bicentennial calendar for yourself, as a special memento for your children or an older township resident, or perhaps send one to a former resident of the township as a keepsake.

Jefferson's Bicentennial year of 2004 will indeed be one to remember, and a Bicentennial Calendar will ensure that you don't miss any important dates.  It's not too late!
