RAGTIME is an epic musical that paints a nostalgic and powerful portrait of life in turn of the century America. In it, three distinct stories intertwine to poignantly illustrate history's timeless contradictions of wealth and poverty, freedom and prejudice, hope and despair, and love and hate. With a score that is as diverse as the melting pot of America that it seeks to recreate, RAGTIME draws upon traditional Jewish folk sounds to color the haunting music of the European immigrants, Vaudevillian style to capture the spectacle of Anglo-American upper-middle-class society, and Joplin and Jazz to invoke the enlivened spirit and rhythms of African-American, working-class Harlem.

With a book by Terrence McNally (based on the novel by E.L. Doctorow) and with music and lyrics by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty ("My Favorite Year" and "Once On This Island"), RAGTIME

was the winner of four 1998 Tony Awards, including Best Score, Best Book, and Best Orchestrations and features such show-stopping songs as: "Wheels of a Dream"; "Till We Reach That Day"; "Back To Before"; "Your Daddy's Son"; and "Make Them Hear You."

The Barn Theatre's production of RAGTIME - The Musical and its cast of 47 actors features Doug McLaughlin as Coalhouse Walker, Alice Regan-Moynahan as Mother, Stuart Scheer as Tateh, Tom Morrissey and Tamara Valdes as Sarah. Lauren Moran is the Director/Choreographer. Jay Mills is the Associate Director and Warren Helms is the Musical Director. RAGTIME is produced by Claire Siegmund and Walter Nieman and is stage managed by Darcey Jacobs.

The Barn Theatre is located at the end of Skyline Drive in Montville, just minutes off Exit 47 of Route 287.
