Local Pro Team Donates Winnings to Help Support Joey Bella Fund

Denville, NJ – August 11, 2002 - The 4th Annual Cycling Challenge at Denville was highlighted by a powerful showing of team strength from the local Navigators professional cycling squad.  The main event saw Tom Leaper of the Navigators leading the charge by first breaking away and then continually increasing his lead before ultimately lapping the field to take the win and the prestigious Gearhart BMW "HUB" Cup award. Two of his teammates, Siro Campomagra and Vasili Davidenko also broke from the field finishing 2nd and 3rd respectively.  Managed in Denville, the

Navigators donated all of their winnings to the Joey Bella Memorial Fund.  The Township of Denville has hosted the event for the past four years. All of

the criterium style races take place in downtown Denville on a challenging one-kilometer course.  The events started at 9am with three masters races for ages 35-44, 45-54 and 55+, a junior race for children under 18, kids races for ages 5-13, and several adult races for women and men. The event was made possible by the Township of

Denville, title sponsorship from Gearhart BMW, and support from Norman Dean, Marty's Reliable & Marty's II Cycles, Garden State Bicycle, Need to Know.Com, Louis Garneau USA, Inc., Mavic, Inc., BikeMine (Vittoria Tires) and Sports Street Marketing (GU food supplements).
