MT. OLIVE  - More than 800 athletes participated in the 6th annual International Trade Center (ITC) Triathlon on Saturday, Sept. 21, 2002 with a course of biking, canoeing and running around the Budd Lake area under overcast skies.

The purpose of this event is to raise funds for the New Jersey Special Olympics Area 3 that serves more than 600 families in Morris, Warren and Sussex counties. These funds go directly to support their athletic programs. The ITC Alliance, an association of companies located in the International Trade Center and the major organizing group behind the event, donated $10,000 to the Special Olympics.

The secondary purposes of the triathlon are to offer a safe and fun recreational event in Mt. Olive

Township that would encourage participation by a broad spectrum of athletes of varying abilities, and to promote goodwill in the

region by linking corporate and community resources.

"We really appreciate our sponsors, especially Hackettstown Community Hospital as our presenting sponsor," said Anne

Joyner, president of the ITC Alliance. "An event of this magnitude greatly benefits from the tremendous support of the hospital and

others. It is truly appreciated."

The race began and ended at the International Trade Center near International Drive North. The first leg was a 14-kilometer mountain bike ride. The second leg took participants on a 4-kilometer canoe trip across Budd Lake. The last leg was a 5-kilometer run to the finish.
