Mount Olive-The Mount Olive Public Library has received notification from the State of New Jersey they will receive a grant
in the amount of $963,074 toward the construction of the township's new state-of-the art library.
The proposed new library will be built on eight acres of a16-acre tract of
land, adjacent to the Municipal/Senior Citizen Complex on Flanders-Draketown Road. The new library will meet the needs of the rapidly expanding community. It will feature 21,400 square feet of
finished space and a 6,300 square foot unfinished basement. The facility will have much-needed areas for children's reading, computer training and programming, special activities, lectures, book
collections, crafts, and reference.
The Mayor and Township Council have approved $3.5 million dollars in the 2001 Capital Budget for the new building construction, and the Township
Council has by resolution, increased that amount by $500,000 in the 2002 Capital Budget, for a total of $4 million dollars. In addition, the Library Board of
Trustees is developing a fund raising campaign within the community for furnishings and equipment.
"We are very pleased to learn the Mt. Olive Public Library will be receiving this grant
which will help us to attain our financial goal," stated Jane Israel, Board President. "The new building will enable us to serve the people in our community who rely upon the services
that the Mt. Olive Public Library provides."
Ground breaking will occur in spring of 2002, and the new building will open sometime in early 2003. The Mt. Olive Public Library is
