Cardinals Devour Expos 11-0

CARDINALS STOMP EXPOS, 11-0

Friday night August 17, 2001 in NY-Penn League action at Skylands Park, the New Jersey Cardinals beat the Vermont Expos (Class A Montreal Expos), 11-0, in front of 2,837 fans. The win improves the Cardinals mark to 25-33, while Vermont slipped to 21-37.

Righty starter Corey Mattison improved to 4-5 on the year, combining with reliever Josh Teekel to spin the 3-hit shutout. Mattison fired six innings of 2-hit ball, striking out three and walking none for the win. Teekel picked up his second save of the season with three scoreless innings of relief.

Matt Williams, Billy Schmitt and Seth Davidson paced the Cardinals attack with two hits apiece, while Williams and John Santor both knocked in two runs. Santo De Los Santos also added a double and a run scored in the win. John Nelson also had a base hit and a run scored, extending his current hitting streak to eight games.
