YANKEES OVER CARDINALS, 5-3
Thursday Night August 9, 2001 in NY-Penn League action the Staten Island Yankees (Class A New York Yankees) topped the New Jersey Cardinals by a score of 5-3. The win
advances the Yankees to 33-16 and drops the Cardinals to 22-28.
Starting pitcher Rhett Parrott fired five innings of action striking out 8 batters. Reliever Mike Wodnicki received the loss,
letting up 2 runs in the top of the 8th inning. Staten Island pitcher Ryan Gill was credited with the win.
The winning runs were knocked in on a two-run homerun
by Juan Comacho, Shelley Duncan scored on the play.
The Cardinals will be back at home on Wednesday, August 15 at 7:15 PM to face the Brooklyn Cyclones.
