The NJ Cardinals hosted the Pittsfield Astros at Skylands Park Monday August 6, 2001. NY-Penn League action at Skylands Park in Augusta, New Jersey, the Cardinals fell to the Pittsfield Astros 6-5 in front of a crowd of 2,311 fans. The loss drops New Jersey to 22-27 and bumps up Pittsfield to 27-20.
Starting pitcher Corey Mattison fired 4.1 innings allowing 8 hits on the evening. Mattison was charged with the loss, he is now 3-5 on the season. Reliever Mike Wodnicki gave his all throwing 3
strikeouts against the Astros in the ninth inning. Jesse Roman, a Queens, NY native, was able to smash a home run in the fourth inning, causing a rally among the fans. Catcher Dan Moylan was 2-4 with
3 RBI's being the Cards top hitter for the night. Outfielder Jeff Jones also had multiple hits.
