MUCKDOGS BEAT CARDINALS, 3-2

June 26, 2001 NY-Penn League action at Skylands Park in Augusta, New Jersey, the Batavia MuckDogs (Philadelphia Phillies) defeated the New Jersey Cardinals, 3-2, in front of 3,011 fans. The loss was the third straight for the Cardinals, second in a row to Batavia, as they slipped to 4-4 on the year.

Catcher Chris Netwall knocked in the Cardinals first run with a single in the bottom of the fourth, finishing the night 2-4 with an RBI. Billy Schmitt was also 2-4 for the Cardinals. Third baseman Matt Williams also had two hits in the loss.

Cardinals starter Corey Mattison (0-1) fired six innings, allowing three unearned runs in the top of the fifth, suffering his first loss of the year. The Cardinals committed four errors in the contest.

The Cardinals will be back home at Skylands Park tomorrow night (6/27) for the final game of a three game set against Batavia. Tomorrow night's promotion is the souvenir cup giveaway for all fans, sponsored by the Morris County Council Education Association.
