Augusta - On Tuesday June 19, 2001 The New Jersey Cardinals opened their 2001 season at Skylands Park. The New Jersey Cardinals beat the Hudson Valley Renegades (Tampa Bay Devil Rays) in the season opener by a score of 3-2, in front of 4,717 fans. (above) Overall of Skylands Park in Augusta, NJ . CARDINALS OVER RENEGADES

June 19  NY-Penn League action in Skylands Park in Augusta, New Jersey, the New Jersey Cardinals beat the Hudson Valley Renegades (Tampa Bay Devil Rays) in the season opener by a score of 3-2, in front of 4,717 fans. Starting pitcher, Justin Pope hurled five strong innings, allowing one run with one hit while notching eight strikeouts, in his professional debut.


Richie Burgess was the winning pitcher with two shut out innings of work, followed by Jared Blassdell's scoreless eighth, and closer Mike Meyer, pitching the 9th, picked up the save.

Dan Moylan, led the Cardinals offense with two hits and an RBI, and teammate, Matt Williams, was 1-3 with a solo homerun. Jesse Roman was 1-3 with an RBI.

The Cardinals return home Thursday, June 21st @ 7:15 PM against the Hudson Valley Renegades. All fans will receive a magnetic schedule courtesy of Miller Brewing Company.
