New Jersey Shakespeare Festival's production of THE FANTASTICKS, which opened in previews on
Tuesday night. Suggested by Edmond Rostand's LES ROMANESQUES and inspired in part by Shakespeare's ROMEO AND JULIET and A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM, this jewel of the musical stage by Harvey Schmidt and
Tom Jones has been given a fresh new staging by director Joe Discher. The ensemble cast features Broadway actor Perry Laylon Ojeda as the enigmatic charmer El Gallo; stage and film veteran Paul Benedict
-- also known for his role as eccentric neighbor Mr. Bentley on the popular television series THE JEFFERSONS -- as Henry, the "Old Actor"; and rising stars Jared Zeus and Erica Piccininni as
Matt and Luisa, the young lovers.

The show's unforgettable score -- featuring the classic songs "Try To Remember," "Soon It's
Gonna Rain" and "They Were You" -- is the icing on this delicious holiday treat, a life-affirming tale of the frustrations and ultimate joys of love. THE FANTASTICKS is onstage at the Festival's
intimate F.M. Kirby Shakespeare Theatre through Sunday, December 30 only. On Thursday, December 27 at 2:00 p.m., a special Family Matinee performance includes a post-show discussion with the actors and director, as
well as a fun gift for young audience members; at this performance only, children ages 12 and under will each take home a Fantastickal Goodie Bag, filled with magical treats and activities designed to spark the
imagination
