After a writing assignment titled "911", students in Mrs. Rebecca Baruffi's Child Development Class felt helpless. They wanted to do something. Not being old enough to give blood, they decided to take up a collection of money. It would be given to the American Red Cross, that was requesting assistance because of the horrific tragedy that happened in New York City on September 11th.

Mrs. Baruffi said she would bring in a covered container for students to drop in some extra change. Since she operates her Advanced Class as a corporation, she said as CEO she would match the total contributions, thinking that out of 55 students she'd collect $25.00 to $50.00 Senior Annette Rivera said: "That was not wise and would limit the amount students would give". So, Mrs. Baruffi rescinded the offer.

The first day $26.51 were collected. Then a student come in with rolled coins from her father. Another student, Maaike Rombout, told her family about what the class was doing, and brought in a bagful of change totaling over $200.00. Two foods students gave $20.00 each. The toal thus far is $285.76.

Principal Mr. Richard McNeely and Student Council Advisor Ms. Mary Memoli expanded on the "Good Will Offering" to include the entire student body and staff at Dover High School to help in the efforts to raise money for those in need from the "Attack on America".

Even though saddened by what happened, Mrs. Baruffi is proud of the response from the students. They exhibited the best qualities of a young American citizen, that of empathy, desire, initiative, participation and productivity yo accomplish a selfless goal.
