	Building Nests for the Birds

	Chatham Twp. - Making bird nests was the dirt for the day at the Great Swamp Outdoor Education Center, on Saturday August 18, 2001. (above) "Best Friends" Janna Grassano, and Mary Eisenberg, both of New Providence; utilize a variety of leaves and twigs they gathered from the surrounding woods to build their bird nests. (left) Making bird nests is a hands-on experience as participants shape together all the ingredients.

Chatham Twp.- (above) Suzzanne Mahoney, Director of the Education Center at the Great Swamp, dishes out a

fresh supply of mud. The mud was used to hold together all the material used in nest building.

Chatham Twp. - The Great Swamp Outdoor Education Center held a nest building craft day on Saturday August 18, 2001. The children had a chance to experience first hand, the work a bird goes through to build its nest. (above left) Michael Lami, of Madison, uses a bowl to keep all the bird nest material shaped properly. (the bird does not use the bowl.) (above middle) Nicholas Lami, gets a hand from his mom, as he places the bird nest he made in a tree. The children will return on a latter date to check if the nests are being used.
