Denville –
There are Trekkies in Morris County! No, not the people who are fanatical about anything "Star Trek," but teenage participants in the Morris County School of Technology's Tech Trek Camp.
The 2-week day program gave youngsters from 13 to 15 years old the chance to explore career and hobby interests, learn new
skills in the well-equipped labs as well as make new friends and have some fun, too. The courses, taught by the school's certified professional teachers, included culinary arts, carpentry and media.
Culinary arts trekkies prepared an assortment of foods using a different theme each day. A sampling of sandwiches would be
the Sloppy Joe, stuffed pita pockets, and a variety of wrap sandwiches. Summer desserts included such delicacies as grilled pineapple, melon with ginger syrup, and blueberry crisp. One of the biggest hits was
homemade vanilla ice cream. Yum!

Campers working with their hands in the construction technologies program created many projects such as CD storage towers, and
were able to experiment with advanced techniques like wood inlays. There was lots of fun to go around during the construction of two catapults – one spring loaded and one weight loaded. Campers tested their work
using water balloon ammunition to see which catapult could throw the balloons furthest.
Media students used their artistic and computer talents in the Macintosh lab to create CD covers, personal
artwork, and futuristic designs. Fast access to the Internet allowed trekkies to draw material from all over the world for their creations.
