Parsippany - In a continuing effort to obtain, improve, and preserve the best possible vision for all patients through laser vision correction, EyeCare 20/20 is pleased to announce the arrival of the VISX S3 Active Trak. Parsippany - (above left)   Prior to treatment, Ruth Bulmer, of Whippany gets a thorough eye examination, called a LASIK consultation, by Dr. Cary M. Silverman, M.D. to determine whether her eyes are healthy and suitable for LASIK. (above right) , Barbara Kociuba, examines a patient's corneal topography on the Orbscan topography unit. This state of the art unit measures both the anterior and posterior corneal curvatures as well as corneal thickness prior to surgery. (left) LASIK is performed on an outpatient basis using an "eye drop" anesthetic for painless surgery. LASIK normally takes less than 15 minutes for both eyes and the patient leaves shortly after the procedure. (below) A special instrument, (a microkeratome) is applied to the cornea creating a thin flap of corneal tissue. (l-r) Patient Ruth Bulmer, of Whippany; Dr. Cary M. Silverman, M.D.; Keri L. McAuliffe, Practice Administrator; and Technician .Barbara Kociuba.

Parsippany - (middle right) EyeCare 20/20, is one of the first practices in the country to offer the VISX Star S3 Excimer Laser System. The Active Trak System enables the excimer laser beam to track patient's eye movements during the LASIK treatment ensuring accurate beam placement. Now there's no need to worry about moving your eyes during LASIK. (below) During the treatment, the laser's cool beam of ultraviolet light removes a small amount of tissue, usually less than the thickness of a human hair. Short pulses of this cool beam laser light change the curvature of the cornea, allowing images to be more sharply focused on the retina. You can think of LASIK as a procedure that etches your eyeglass or contact lens prescription onto your eye.

Parsippany - (above) The VISX S3 was just recently approved to use Variable Spot Scanning (VSS).  This new treatment modality is ideal for those patients with large pupils who are at an increased risk for night vision problems.  This cutting edge technology allows a surgeon to increase the size of the treatment zone, thereby markedly decreasing night vision concerns.  The VISX Star S3 system is able to achieve this using Smart Scan technology, which minimizes the depth of the treatment, a distinct advantage over the flying spot laser, which makes much deeper treatments.

If you are nearsighted, farsighted, or have astigmatism without your glasses or contact lenses, you are living in a blurry and fuzzy world. You probably can't even imagine being able to wake up and see the alarm clock or drive a car without the aid of your glasses or contacts. LASIK (Laser Assisted In-Situ Keratomileusis) is one of the fastest growing elective surgeries in America, and is the most exciting advancement in the field of eye care since the invention of the contact lens. LASIK utilizes the excimer laser as a quick, accurate way to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism.

Located in Parsippany, N.J., EyeCare 20/20 is considered one of the area's leading independent LASIK centers. The practice takes pride in serving patients from surrounding communities, the entire tri-state area, as well as from around the country. They offer the best possible care with state-of-the-art technology and a highly trained professional staff.

Cary M. Silverman, M.D., Medical Director of EyeCare 20/20 has been performing refractive surgeries since 1992 and is cited in the 1998, 1999, 2000, and 2001 editions of The Best Doctors in the New York Metro Area.  He has performed thousands of LASIK procedures to date.

Dr. Silverman was recently named a VISX Star Surgeon for his performance as a refractive surgeon. This honor is given each year to the highest-volume surgeons in the United States.  Ranking as a VISX Star Surgeon places Dr. Silverman and EyeCare 20/20 in the top 5% of refractive surgeons and centers nationwide.
