Montville -
"Once On This Island" will be presented at The Barn Theatre in Montville from May 25th through June 9, 2001 at 8:00pm on Fridays and Saturdays and at 3:00pm on Sundays. Ticket prices are $19 dollars, and ticket prices for senior citizens and students are $17 dollars on Sunday performances. An enormous Broadway hit known for its highly original and theatrical Caribbean adaptation of the popular fairy tale "The Little Mermaid", "Once On This Island" uses the Hans Christian Anderson story to explore the all too timely issue of racism and its impact on the heart, mind and soul. This the seldom performed, but wonderful musical by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty (the creators of "Ragtime" and "Seussical") is a musical tale of love, loss and redemption by a group of storytellers to calm a child during a bad storm. The story they tell is of a young girl, Ti Moune, sent on a journey by the gods of her island to test the ultimate strength of love vs. the power of death. Winner of the Oliver award for Best Musical "Once On This Island" delivers melody, love and joy in tropical abundance
