Skylands Park in Augusta, New Jersey, the New Jersey Cardinals (St. Louis Cardinals)
and Hudson Valley Renegades (Tampa Bay Devil Rays) split a doubleheader. The Cardinals took the first game by the score of 2-1 and the Renegades took the nightcap by a count of 8-2. New Jersey moves to
29-39, while Hudson Valley goes to 21-46.
In the first game, both starters, Mike Perkins for New Jersey & Richard Dorman for Hudson Valley, both turned in superb efforts, each going into the 8th inning. Perkins line was 7 innings pitched, 2 hits allowed, and he struck out 8. Dorman went 7.1 innings, allowed 4 hits, and fanned 7. Cardinals reliever Santo Samora (2-2) threw the 8th & 9th innings picking up the win, throwing two innings without allowing a baserunner.
The winning run scored when the
Cardinals loaded the bases off loser, Dustin McKey (1-2) in the bottom of the 9th inning. Outfielder Jose Espino grounded a sharply hit ball to third baseman Juan Salas who threw home for the force. Catcher Dan Marsh threw the ball to first baseman Alex Marconi, but the ball went into right field, allowing outfielder Dee Haynes to score the game winner.
The second game saw the Renegades pound out 11 hits off four Cardinals pitchers. Starter Carmen Cali took the loss, dropping his record to 2-6, while Renegades starter Nathan Cromer picked up the
win, moving his record to 2-6.
