Rockaway Twp. Opens Door to the Past

Bicentennial Time Capsule from Rockaway Townsquare Mall unveiled August 22, 2000

Rockaway Township - On Monday night, August 22nd history was unveiled at the Township's municipal building. When contents of the Bicentennial time capsule were displayed to the public for the first time. The capsule spent its last 24 years in the Rockaway Townsquare Mall, where time, mall reconstruction and moisture took its toll on the contents. (above) Fiona Lynch and her mom Barbara Campi Lynch, now of Hopatcong were able to view her mom's Stonybrook School 6th grade class photo. (right) Students holding Stonybrook School's quilt. The contents of the capsule will be on display at the Rockaway Townsquare Mall Friday August 25 and Saturday August 26.

Moran, at the time wrote a mock council play on the anticipation of the future, reflecting on the past. The play was then acted out by the town council members at the Bicentennial picnic.
